Bulgarian sailors return home after being freed by Yemen’s Houthis

SOFIA - Two Bulgarian sailors and a Romanian crew member returned home after being held for 14 months by Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis, receiving a warm welcome from their families and officials at Sofia airport on Thursday.

The Romanian released by Houthi terrorists in Yemen arrived safely in Bulgaria on Thursday afternoon. He was brought to Sofia by an official Bulgarian plane, along with the two Bulgarian hostages released at the same time as him.

“I am glad that the Romanian sailor kidnapped from the ship 'Galaxy Leader' is returning home. I extend our thanks to all our partners in the region, especially the Sultanate of Oman, who have supported us in this effort. I welcome the diplomatic and specific efforts of the Romanian institutions.
