In response to a new online protest movement and in the period leading up to the sixth anniversary of the Hirak in February 2025, the Algerian authorities intensified their relentless repression of any peaceful opposition by making arbitrary arrests and unfair legal proceedings leading to long prison sentences, Amnesty International said.
