China pledged decisive action to defend its economy, a day after unveiling levies on American goods and export controls on rare earths in response to Donald Trump’s tariffs.

China has taken and will continue to take decisive steps to safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday, citing a Chinese government's anti-US tariff stance.The U.S. must "stop using tariffs as a weapon to suppress China's economy and trade, and stop undermining the legitimate development rights of the Chinese people," the ministry said.
