The state’s fourth- and eighth-graders still rank near the top in math and reading on a national assessment known as the Nation’s Report Card. On Wednesday, Jan. 29, the U.S. Department of Education announced that Massachusetts students ranked first on all four tests administered last year, but their scores are still below pre-pandemic levels.
