Despite the fact that the moratorium, claimed by SEO/BirdLife since 2018 and implemented since 2021, has allowed the first signs of recovery in the population of turtledoves on the western migratory route, the reopening of the hunt could reverse these advances and put the species at risk again.

Minister Clint Camilleri announced that once again the Court has rejected the injunction filed by BirdLife Malta to prevent any discussion in the Ornis Committee regarding the spring hunting of pigeons.
