Washington — The life and times of the oldest detachable high-speed chairlift in Washington are coming to a close. Yesterday, Crystal Mountain announced that it will be replacing the Rainier Express (known by Crystal skiers as REX) chairlift. Washington’s oldest detachable chairlift will be retired this spring to make way for a next-generation high speed quad. Crystal Mountain’s Rainier Express, or “Rex” for short, dates back to 1988, when a group of local shareholders purchased two Poma chairlifts for the mountain.
