The threat of war is a reality. That theme was often mentioned on Saturday during the 81st commemoration of the bombing of Nijmegen in February 1944. "Our world may not remain what it has been for the past eighty years," said Nijmegen mayor Hubert Bruls. "We do not always have influence on what is coming our way. The only thing we can do is not let ourselves be led astray and prepare ourselves to the extent that we can."
