Operation Pothole comes to Summers County
PIPESTEM, WV (WVNS) -- Operation Pothole began repairing two areas in Summers County. WV American Water marks National Work Zone Awareness Week West Virginia Route 12 and True Road were areas where repair has begun. Route 12 runs through over 30 miles of Summers County, beginning in Greenbrier County in the north and ending in Monroe County in the south. True Road begins just after Bluestone Lake and ends in Pipestem.

A Work Zone Safety Week event, held April 21, 2025 at the West Virginia Capitol in Charleston, West Virginia was a somber affair as West Virginia Parkways employee James Dean Harper, 24, of Bolt, Raleigh County, was remembered. On April 14, 2025 on the West Virginia Turnpike near Chelyan, Kanawha County, West Virginia, Harper was filling potholes in a highway work zone when he was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer truck.
