CO Reports: Black bears ending hibernation

CO (Conservation Officer) Jim Guida (Brainerd #2) worked at in-service this week and fielded complaints of reckless driving of all-terrain vehicles. Guida monitored ice out on area lakes and reviewed numerous water-related permits. An adult sow bear and her two cubs were observed denned near a cattle farm, causing some concern to the livestock producer who was calving newborns. Technical advice was given. DNR urges caution as black bears emerge
