Immunization at risk: Global health leaders urge action amid rising disease outbreaks

Immunization efforts are under growing threat as misinformation, population growth, humanitarian crises, and funding cuts jeopardize progress and leave millions of children, adolescents, and adults at risk, warn WHO, UNICEF, and Gavi during World Immunization Week, 24-30 April.

In the face of the decline in international aid and disinformation about vaccines, the United Nations is concerned that certain life-threatening diseases, which are preventable, are on the rise.

Immunization efforts are under increasing threat as misinformation, population growth, humanitarian crises and funding cuts undermine progress and leave millions of children, adolescents and adults at risk. The warning was issued on Thursday (24 April 2025) by the WHO (World Health Organization), UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund) and Gavi (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization), in celebration of World Immunization Week.
