Outgoing FCC head says Salt Typhoon hacking a clarion call to address security issues

  • The US regulator, the FCC, issued a formal ruling on Thursday, January 14th, 2021, stating that telecommunications carriers have a statutory obligation to secure their systems against unlawful access or interception of communications under section 105 of the nation's Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act . This clarification is effective immediately.
  • In response, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Yin Kecheng and Sichuan Juxinhe Network Technology, a Sichuan-based cybersecurity company accused of direct involvement in the Salt Typhoon intrusions.
