Austria to shut border crossings to Hungary, Slovakia over foot and mouth

According to plans, the restriction will remain in effect until May 20, and the large Nickelsdorf-Hegyeshalom border crossing will remain open.

Austrian authorities have taken serious steps to curb foot-and-mouth disease. Small border crossings are being closed to prevent the spread of the infection.

At the Břeclav-Brodská border crossing on the D2 motorway, army vets began helping with checks for foot-and-mouth disease on Thursday morning. The army has allocated 20 of them, with a total of about 30. Army vets will take turns in 12-hour shifts. So far only at this highway border crossing.
