From one to ten

How much pain do you feel on a scale of one to ten? The doctor asked me a question and, as always happens to me in such situations, I couldn't give a specific number. I'm in a lot of pain but I don't know how to express my discomfort in numbers. I don't know, seven? Eight?, I replied.
