The term fanfic comes from fan fiction, and refers to stories elaborated, by and for fans, around a concrete imaginary universe, be it Harry Potter, Ranma 1⁄2, Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, etc. We speak of dojinshi when we refer to comics and animations of a concrete series, although technically a dojinshi is a self-publishing.
