Guyana rejects Chinese diplomat's suggestion of friendly negotiations with Caracas

Guyana’s Foreign Ministry rejected a statement by China’s Chargé d’Affaires Huang Rui, urging Georgetown and Caracas to resolve their border dispute over the Essequibo region through friendly negotiations, despite stressing that China 'never intervenes in the internal affairs of other countries.'

A Beijing official had suggested that the parties negotiate in a friendly manner but Georgetown strongly refused to engage in dialogue with Nicolás Maduro's regime.

The Government of Guyana reiterated this Friday its refusal to negotiate directly with Venezuela on the disputed region of the Esequibo, stressing that the dispute must be resolved in the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
