Lawyers for the American Civil Liberties Union had filed urgent requests in multiple courts, after reports some men had already been loaded onto buses and were told they were to be deported.

Donald Trump had invoked the Foreign Enemies Act of 1798 in March to arrest these immigrants, accused of belonging to a criminal gang.

The Trump administration wants to deport another group of suspected Venezuelan gang members, probably to El Salvador. The Supreme Court has for the time being banned this. Two conservative judges publicly objected to the decision of their colleagues.
