Seija Ballhaus steps up to European gold U57kg

Judoka Seija Ballhaus won the gold medal at the European Championship in Montenegro - the first medal for the German team. For the 24-year-old, it is the greatest success of her career so far.

Seija Ballhaus has surprisingly won the first German gold medal at this Judo-EM. She won in the class up to 57 kg - the first gold in this class for 48 years.

The second day of the 2025 European Judo Championships in Podgorica opened with the women's -57kg division, where many had their eyes on Georgia’s Eteri Liparteliani. However, it was Germany’s Seija Ballhaus who delivered the performance of the day, tactically outmaneuvering her opponent in the final to claim her first senior European title.

The 24 year old Judoka succeeds in the European Championship in Podgorica the very big throw. On Friday also the Olympic second for the German team goes on the mat.
