- Less than a tenth of the 400 million tonnes of plastic produced globally in 2022 came from recycled materials, and only 9% was recycled.
- The annual global production of plastics is expected to double to 800 million tonnes by 2050, with 98% of new plastic produced from fossil fuels.
- Recycling rates have stagnated at 9%, while incineration is becoming more common, used to dispose of 34% of plastic waste in 2022.
