Levothyrox: Justice rejects compensation by the state, despite a proven "fault"

This Friday decision follows a collective action launched in 2021. The victim's lawyer is studying the "opportunity" to file an appeal.

In 2017, more than 30,000 patients complained of side effects after a new Levothyrox drug, used to treat thyroid disorders, was placed on the French market.

The state was found guilty in the Levothyrox case on Friday, April 4, 2025 for not having sufficiently informed patients about the side effects of the medication, but the court did not provide any compensation to the complainants, considering that they were not justified in claiming an anxiety injury.

The National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) "committed a fault of such a nature as to incur the responsibility of the State" in this case dating back to the late 2010s, considers a judgment of the Administrative Court of Appeal of Paris. But the complainants are not "justified to rely on a preliminary ruling".
