Most drivers see speed limits merely as ‘targets’, report finds

The majority of drivers view speed limits as a “target”, according to a major poll of motorists. Figures from the RAC’s annual report on motoring found that 72 per cent of drivers said they tried to drive as close to the speed limit as possible. More than half also said they believed there was a culture among UK road users that it was acceptable to break the speed limit.
