Despite the upcoming absence of its iconic driver Sergio Perez from the starting grid, the Mexican Grand Prix is preparing to sign a new contract extension with Formula 1, until 2028. Mexico City's Prime Minister, Clara Brugada, confirmed this this week.

The Mayor of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, suggested that an extension of the contract to continue hosting Formula 1 would be signed on 30 April, despite Sergio Perez's absence on the starting grids since the end of 2024. The Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit returned to the F1 calendar in 2015 after a 23-year break, and has remained regular since then.
