University conflict: rectors denounce a “deep crisis” and harden their claims

The leadership of the National Interuniversity Council was in the hands of Peronist Oscar Alpa. Authorities will insist on a new Financing Law and warned about the “terminal” situation of the scientific system in case the adjustment continues

As the concern for the budget drowning grows, the CIN chose new authorities and alerted to an unprecedented crisis. The new incumbent, Oscar Alpa (rector of La Pampa), raised the question.

On Friday, the National University of La Pata (UNLP) published on its website that its president, Martín López Armengol, participated in the 93rd Plenary Session of the CIN, which met at the headquarters of the National University of San Luis. "The activity provided for the presence and remote participation of the highest authorities of university institutions throughout the national territory," said UNLP.

The plenary decided to work on the new Financing Law and denounced the "critical" situation and the "indifference" of the government. "The situation of the scientific system is even more serious and will be terminal if they are not taken action," they warned in a statement.

The National Interuniversity Council issued a hard statement alerting to the current budgetary situation. "The precarious conditions to which the national university and scientific system was subjected during 2024 deepened in the first months of this new year," they said.

At the 93rd Plenary Session of Rectors and Rectors of the National Interuniversity Council (CIN), held this Friday in Luis (UNSL), the new authorities of the body were elected and adopted two declarations that address the Malvinas question and the current difficult university budget situation.
