LAFD member jumps out of SUV before debris flow swept it into ocean

A Los Angeles Fire Department member was swept into the ocean while inside an LAFD vehicle due to a mudslide in Malibu during heavy rain on Thursday.
He escaped with minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution, according to LAFD Captain.
Mandatory evacuations were ordered for 20,000 people in the Palisades burn area, and another 5,000 were under an evacuation warning amid hazardous conditions from charred cliffs and mudslides.
Malibu schools were closed on Friday due to road hazards.
