Oregon city hit with large penalty over pollution to South Santiam River

State environmental regulators have leveled nearly $34,000 in fines against Lebanon, among the largest penalties in the region, and ordered the city to hire a consultant for dozens of sewage-related violations.Among those violations was a July 2023 spill when the city pumped about 1 million gallons of untreated waste fluid and feces into the South Santiam River.
