A few days before the 5th Summit of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), scheduled for 24 April in Madagascar, civil society and several Comorian political parties gathered on Wednesday 17 April in Moroni, in the Place de l'Indépendance. In question: a possible recognition of Mayotte as a French territory within the regional organisation.

The French president had promised to return to the archipelago after Cyclone Chido passed in December.

The President of the Republic will make a four-day trip to the Indian Ocean, announced the Elysée on Wednesday 16 April. He will start in Mayotte, then go to Reunion, Madagascar and finally Mauritius.
