News orgs accuse AI firm of stealing articles and creating “fake” news

Condé Nast and other media companies sued the AI startup Cohere for "systematic copyright and trademark infringement" by using news articles to train its language model.
The lawsuit seeks up to $150,000 in statutory damages for each infringed work under the Copyright Act.
The complaint includes over 4,000 identified articles that the plaintiffs claim Cohere has infringed upon.
Cohere called the lawsuit "frivolous" and stated it prioritizes controls to mitigate IP infringement risks.
