Village of Channahon Mayor Discusses Issue of PFAS Found in Some Municipal Shallow Wells

The Haut-Rhin prefecture took this order because of pollution related to the past use of fire-fighting foam containing eternal pollutants at Basel-Mulhouse airport.

The consumption of tap water is prohibited for the most vulnerable people in eleven communes in the Saint-Louis (Haut-Rhin) agglomeration from May 5, 2025. The measure was taken by prefectural order because of a PFAS rate exceeding the regulatory limit in the drinking water of this area. An action plan must be put in place before December 31, 2025.

At a press conference held this Friday 25 April in Saint-Louis, the Prefect of Haut-Rhin Thierry Queffélech announced that he had taken a decree prohibiting the consumption of tap water for those deemed sensitive in 11 communes in southern Alsace where Pfas (eternal pollutants) rates exceed the regulatory limit. Nearly 3,000 people are affected.
