Selling a car with disabled-person license plates — how does that work?

Q: Hi Honk: I had Disabled Person License Plates installed on my vehicle some years ago. As a courtesy, AAA installed them for me and kept the obsolete plates stating they would be returned to the Department of Motor Vehicles. If I sell my vehicle, do I remove the plates and transfer them to my new vehicle?
