Serbian organizations call on the European Union to take action against the persecution of activists

More than 100 Serbian civil society organizations, activist groups and political parties have called on representatives of the EU and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to respond to the political persecution and detention of Novi Sad activists.

The Network of Academic Solidarity and Engagement (MASA) called on members of the academic community to resign from all commissions and working bodies of the Republic of Serbia, its cities and municipalities, which would be an act of civil disobedience.

Four climate activists were wrongly banned from the area in 2023 when they called for the blocking of the A12 in The Hague. The Dutch state has acknowledged this in a case at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The State is offering the Extinction Rebellion (XR) protesters compensation for their legal costs and 900 euros per person for non-material damage.

Students and members of the academic community are riding bicycles to the Council of Europe headquarters in Strasbourg, in order to draw the attention of European officials to the situation in Serbia. They are accompanied by reporters from N1 and Nova.
