Stocks sailed into the new year on a positive wave

Mutual fund investors mostly took profits at the beginning of the year. The Partners index of equity funds rose by 3.9 percent during January. Bond funds also fared well - their index strengthened by 0.8 percent. Mixed funds responded to the growth of both stocks and bonds and grew by 1.7 percent.
