UN refugee agency calls for greater investment in Syrian returnees

Geneva - Some 400,000 Syrians have returned from neighboring countries since the fall of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024, according to estimates by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. During the same period, more than one million internally displaced persons (IDPs) have returned within Syria, bringing the total number of Syrians who have returned to their homes to more than 1.4 million.

More than 250,000 Syrians have decided to return to their country after the regime’s collapse last December, but they have encountered their homes and a country shattered after 14 years of war.
