Surviving a power grid attack: How to stay safe in a grid-down scenario
Possible causes of a grid-down scenario include an electromagnetic pulse (EMP), cyberattacks, terrorist attacks and solar flares or coronal mass ejections (CME). To prepare for a grid-down scenario, secure water supplies, stockpile food and learn how to preserve food, find alternative energy sources and build a prepping community network. Developing off-grid skills like starting a home garden, learning first aid and taking self-defense lessons c…
Grid operator reports stable power supply during Saturday’s partial solar eclipse
On Saturday, energy producers successfully managed the impact of the partial solar eclipse, according to the Dutch grid operator TenneT. The eclipse, which caused about a quarter of the sun to be covered by the moon at its peak, led to a reduction in solar power production. However, TenneT confirmed that no reserve power was needed to compensate for the decrease in energy generation.
TenneT: drop in solar power during eclipse well handled
The partial solar eclipse on Saturday was well absorbed by the energy producers, says grid operator TenneT. The eclipse, which at its peak caused about a quarter of the sun to be obscured by the moon, did lead to a decline in the production of solar power, but no reserve capacity had to be deployed. According to a spokesperson, it is currently unknown how much the production of solar power in the Netherlands declined.
