In 2023, Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev called the shortage of personnel in the Ministry of Internal Affairs “critical”. And in early March 2024, he said that the situation had become even worse: the Ministry of Internal Affairs lacked 172,000 employees, over the year, there were 33,000 more vacancies, and every second district police officer with 10 years or more of service quit.
