On December 31, 2024, the length of public railways in operation in Romania amounted to 10,611 km, the National Institute of Statistics announced on Thursday. Of the total, 10,515 km (99.1%) were standard gauge lines, 91 km (0.9%) were broad gauge lines and 5 km were narrow gauge lines. The density of lines per 1,000 km2 of territory was 44.5‰.
