The overall challenge is to achieve zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in maritime transport activities, which accounts for 3% of total emissions and accounts for 5% of international oil demand. The next 25 years will be decisive in achieving this ambitious target, in a sector that “ships” at different speeds and has set specific deadlines (reduction of 30% of GHG emissions by 2030, 80% by 2040 and net zero by 2050).
