Hot lava that erupts from the interior of a volcano and rolls down the slopes is not the greatest evil. You can run away from it. But you can't hide from a lahar, or a so-called pyroclastic flow, which rushes at a speed of several hundred kilometers per hour. "It's deadly," says Vladislav Rapprich, an expert on volcanic processes, who studies volcanoes not only around the world but also in our country.
