Flash floods, landslides wreak havoc in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli

Heavy rainfall over the past two days has triggered flash floods and landslides across Uttarakhand, severely disrupting life in several hilly districts. Chamoli has been hit hardest, with blocked roads, buried vehicles, and warnings issued for travellers. Due to torrential rains on Thursday evening in Nandprayag of Chamoli, rain drains overflowed. Debris filled the Nandprayag market, due to which water and mud filled people's houses and shops. The road repair work going on on the Badrinath National Highway has been hampered. The Meteorological Department has issued a three-day alert in Chamoli.
