Two injured in tunnel fire in Hiroshima, no serious injuries as no one was able to escape (Kyodo News)

At around 9:50 a.m. on the 23rd, multiple calls were made to 119 reporting that a vehicle was on fire in the Oyama Tunnel on the National Route 2 Higashi-Hiroshima Bypass, which runs between Higashi-Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and Aki Ward, Hiroshima City. According to the fire department and police, the fire was put out about an hour later. The fire department initially said that the firefighters had inhaled smoke while evacuating.
