Italian towns clamp down on Liberation Day celebrations amid political tensions
As Italy marks the 80th anniversary of its liberation from Fascist and Nazi forces on April 25th, a number of local authorities are scaling back or outright cancelling commemorations, citing the national mourning period declared following the death of Pope Francis.
Two municipalities in Brescia cancel celebrations on April 25
Two municipalities in Brescia have canceled the celebrations of April 25. They are Ono San Pietro and Cividate Camuno, both in Vallecamonica and both driving center-right. In the latter country, the mayor is Alessandro Francesetti, coordinator of Fratelli d'Italia in Vallecamonica, who had already decided to organize the celebrations for Saturday, April 26 and who yesterday, however, canceled the appointment.
