The Prime Minister said he had lost a friend, and Hungary had also lost a friend.

Francis wanted to be an approachable Pope. A refugee, an abuse victim, a religious woman, a representative of the "Synodal Way" and a bishop tell how they experienced him.

It could hardly be more symbolic, especially these days.

The day before he died, Pope Francis made one final circuit through St. Peter’s Square in his popemobile. “That’s my last image of him alive,” Gerry O’Connell remembered. “He drove among the people.”
