For a long time, the people behind WhatsApp kept quiet about the mass switch to messaging app Signal and the widespread concerns about big tech companies. But on Tuesday evening, that changed. Will Cathcart, the head of WhatsApp, lashed out from the United States at the "gossip in the Netherlands" and wants to "fight back and convince the Dutch that Meta does not collect any data at all".

With the use of the chat app Signal growing fast in the Netherlands, WhatsApp has launched a charm offensive in the Dutch media. WhatsApp is safe and protects users’ privacy, director Will Cathcart told a handful of Dutch journalists during a Zoom conversation, NU.nl reports.
