Winter is going: Nanaimo leads Canada in loss of sub-zero winter days

Nanaimo has gained 18 winter days above 0 °C over the past 10 years, leading Canada in this change, according to Climate Central.
The Cowichan Valley and Greater Vancouver followed Nanaimo with 17 and 16 additional winter days above 0 °C, respectively.
Nanaimo City Council declared a climate emergency in 2019 and set emission reduction targets of 50-58 percent below 2010 levels by 2030.
Climate Central's Vice-President for Science, Kristina Dahl, warned that changing winter temperatures can harm ecosystems, including salmon populations.
